Cuhaci Peterson partnered with Cru to reimagine the office with its U.S. headquarters, transforming the Lake Nona campus into a vibrant hub of innovation and collaboration. This bold redesign reflects a commitment to creating inspiring spaces that empower teams and elevate the workplace experience.

“Our partnership began in 2016 with life safety planning during security system upgrades,” said Technical Manager, Daniel Lee. During the pandemic, Cru engaged Cuhaci Peterson again for a comprehensive remodel.

The campus encompasses approximately 270,000 square feet, including 120,000 square feet each in the East and West buildings, and an additional 38,000 square feet in the North building.

A Vision for Modern Workspaces

The remodel wasn’t just about aesthetics; it was about reimagining how people work. “Prior to the renovations, the space was divided up with partial height cubicle partitions,” Lee added. The goal was to create a more communal, flexible environment. Spaces where employees could move freely, collaborate easily and feel connected. Gone are the days of heavy, dark wood and rigid layouts. In their place, CP introduced open areas, natural light and versatile breakout spaces.

Work began in the West building, with several phases underway simultaneously. Cuhaci Peterson delivered plans for demolition and the new office layout, which required updated life-safety calculations. These changes increased occupancy by 159 people (2,520 to 2,679) while adding 170 meeting rooms. Behind the scenes, every new conference room required meticulous planning to ensure seamless integration of fire safety, ventilation, lighting, electrical systems and low-voltage data. It’s a reminder that great design is as much about the unseen details as it is about the visible beauty.

Designing for Flexibility

One of the standout features of the new design is the ability for employees to choose where they work. There are no assigned desks in the reimagined workspace; instead, employees have carte blanche to select from a myriad of options to suit their needs. From huddle rooms equipped with advanced technology to make it easy for six to eight people to meet, connect, and innovate, to individual pods that feel like first-class airplane cabins, the flexible design supports mobility and team collaboration.

“Neighborhoods,” such as Wing H (home to U.S. Technologies and Digital Services), were introduced. These zones foster community while incorporating sound-baffling elements to maintain a balance between openness and focus.

A Collaborative Effort

This project was a genuine team effort. From design to execution, every phase reflects dedication and precision. Seeing the finished product today, we’re proud of what we accomplished together. It’s more than a remodel—it’s a transformation that empowers people to work better, connect more and thrive.
