March 15, 2016

We did it! 15 sponsors, tons of individual donors, 33 team members and 1,374.5 miles later, the Cuhaci & Peterson/LassiterWare team was the 3rd largest corporate fundraiser, with just over $22,000 raised, and had 9 of the 96 Champions (people who individually raised $1,000 or more) in 2016’s Tour de Cure Lake Nona.

The event took place on Sunday, March 13th at the Lake Nona Town Center. Even with the time change, hundreds of people were out bright and early and ready to ride. There was a bustle about the site, as riders found their team mates, posed for group pictures and assembled at the starting line. Music was playing in the background, keeping the pace of things lively right up until it was time to start. Several different speakers took the mic, thanking many of the numerous people and organizations that made the event possible. There was even a fly over (albeit a complete timing coincidence directly after the national anthem finished). Then the ride officially started. Those who were riding 50, 63 and 102 miles were off.

Tons of company representatives, friends and families of riders stayed behind to await the riders’ return in a few hours. Additionally the second group, riding the 10 and 25 mile routes, had their send off a couple of hours later. By just after 10:00 am, everyone could hear the cheers as riders started crossing the finish line. As riders continued to return, the earlier excitement turned into a palpable sense of accomplishment and pride. To date, this year’s ride has raised more than $550,000 for the American Diabetes Association.

For our C&P team members, there was also an additional meaning behind riding in this year’s Tour de Cure. As many are aware, almost a year ago, C&P unexpectedly lost one of our Principals, Amin Fikry. In addition to being an irreplaceable member of the firm and friend to many, he also suffered from diabetes; it was with that in mind that C&P dedicated our 2016 ride to him, in remembrance of the man he was and the impact he had on the hearts of all who knew him. We were honored to have his wife and son in attendance, along with his two daughters, who rode in honor of their late father.

As everyone on our team works through some sore muscles and tired bodies, we are also reflecting on how proud we are to have made such an impact on our local community. Team Captain, Chris Abbey noted, “Another great Tour completed by the Cuhaci & Peterson/LassiterWare team. The day started at 6am and turned out great! The weather held out and the expected rain did not fall on any of the riders. We had the first rider to need SAG (just a few scrapes) and had the last rider to finish. The day was great and the new location made the event more enjoyable.”

There is still just under a month to wrap up the fundraising. To donate to the C&P/LassiterWare team, please click here. We’re humbled by the generosity of our friends, families and business partners and already looking forward to doing it all over again next year. Another heartfelt thank you to all who donated to our team, especially our corporate sponsors and a job well done to our Champions (who raised $1,000 or more individually). We couldn’t have collagedone it without you!
